Depends on how the outlets were installed. Many outlets have two methods of attaching wiring, pushing into a hole vs. wrapping around a screw. Also, outlets wear out with repeated plugging and unplugging, copper oxidizes with age, etc...
Outlets that are not working properly may be warm under heavy load (e.g. toaster, hair dryer, AC). Outlets on the same circuit upstream from where the load is plugged in may also get warm. This is a bad sign. If they get hot, then this is dangerous. I've also seen evidence of fire (melted and charred insulation) in an old panel that had unsafe circuit breakers made by a company that went bankrupt whose products started house fires.
If you don't know what you are doing or don't know what the local laws are you should contact a licensed electrician if there are any questions about your wiring.
