RE: What IS it about live sound? The Question

More than just ear canal, skin, gut, etc... But yes, you can work around the room size issue if you have a near field setup, but it can be disconcerting if you listen eyes open and hear sound that is way outside the boundaries of the room. (Hearing this means eliminating all obvious room nodes.)
