There are times when I love listening to Pandora, mostly at work when I'm not doing "critical" listening. But I've begun to wonder if shuffle play, random song selection has crept into my home listening as well, and has reduced my ability to listen to an entire album.Certainly, with vinyl, one doesn't typically get to shuffle from song to song, or to play them randomly. Although, I have to admit there are times when playing vinyl that I reach for the remote to try to skip to the next song. LOL
So, I'm wondering, does anyone else feel that we are losing the ability to enjoy an "album", and/or prolonged listening sessions? I certainly understand the convenience of having one's entire catalogue at one's shuffling fingertip, but I do wonder what effect that has, if any, on one's listening habits.
Most of my students, college level, don't even purchase "albums" any more--just individual songs. No right and wrong here...things change.
