*How important to you is it to have used gear ship in its original box?*
Pretty important, I keep all the original boxes. No original box is the same to me as a notch or two down on the condition chart. A 9/10 becomes a 8/10, or 7/10.
*Would you expect to pay less for well cared for equipment, accompanied by original manuals, documentation & accessories etc., well packaged - but in a generic box?*
Absolutely! I have bought gear without the original boxes, but the price does have to adjusted down. Condition, age, original boxes, manuals, remotes, and any maintenance receipts all help determine the value of the piece in my mind.
