General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

RE: Bob Neill made the same point about systems in general a year or so ago

I'm not ready to be in a camp yet and the camps you are describing involve a lot of overlap. Let's just say that some dacs (amps, speakers) interpret the information more than some others, yielding various results which we take to be degrees of presence or transportation!

In my house, as you {Frihed) know, I move among combinations of Audio Note, Blue Circle, Resolution Audio, Crimson, Jean Marie Reynaud, and Tocaro equipment, getting various amounts of interpretation, all of which please me in their different ways. I'm not ready to decide where I'll end up when I shut Amherst Audio down. Let's just say that the best of the most ambitious manipulators of sound can seduce the hardest of hearts, at least for a while; and that the best of those that manipulate the least can restore your sense of balance and truth.

Whether the dac, as the original poster has more or less been taken to suggest, is the principal in this matter I'm reluctant to conclude. But when I compare an Audio Note Dac 4.1 Signature to a Resolution Audio Cantata, it does make a significant difference of the kind he describes, even if you change around the rest of the gear down the chain. The AN dac will always warm/refine/enrich; the Cantata will always clean the windows.
