I deal with the CC problem via a two step process. I have a second account that I use only for Internet charges. I minimize my exposure by keeping this account at a very low level of funding. I pay out of this account via Paypal whenever possible.
I expect we will see download sites that take Bitcoin shortly. This avoids the problems of card numbers being stolen because there are no card numbers, just digital signatures. You have to trust that your computer has not been hacked and you have to trust the merchant to deliver the goods or refund you, because there is no middleman who holds the funds in escrow. It's just like paying cash in that regard. Bitcoin can also be used to send funds to politically incorrect individuals who have been cut out of the banking system by the powers that be.
