RE: Tocaro/Crimson room at Newport

Some press for Crimson/Tocaro!

Interesting read. What I am curious about is whether the hint of a solid state atmosphere the commentator refers to is the result of his (our?) having become used to a hint of tubeyness. I heard something like what he refers to when I first came to the Crimson/Tocaro combo from hybrids and tube gear. Now it goes the other way: when I return to my hybrid and tube gear, it sounds a bit tubey! When Mario from Audio Note was here visiting once with Dave Cope of Audio Note, his first reaction to the Crimson/Tocaro system was, “Not bad for solid state.” Dave, who is somewhat more liberal of mind and less of an AN disciple, smiled at me knowingly. We both know that the farther up the AN line you go, the more it sounds like really good solid state!

I had/am having a similar experience going back and forth between Blue Circle's new all solid state electronics and their hybrids. Each brings out the 'signature' of the other. Which is 'right' will become clearer over time. But the return of solid state fascinates me, especially as the Sound of Sand, as we used to call it, has really changed...as in disappeared, at least for me.
