I have recordings where high frequency energy associated with the music goes in the range of 40 to 60 kHz as analyzed with spectrograph plots. Some of these were made with microphones rated to 100 kHz. My speakers are advertised as having response to 40 kHz. LPs and 30 IPS master tapes go well above 20 Khz in bandwidth and have done so for decades.
Twenty-five years ago there were (dubious) economic reasons to reduce the bandwidth of digitally recorded music. These no longer apply. I see no reason to arbitrarily lower the quality of recorded music according to a preconceived notion that frequencies above 20 kHz can't be "heard" and hence don't matter.
