RE: If you aren't willing to pull them out...get a Behringer DEQ2496

I've added digital room EQ by parametric equalization, but without any additional hardware. I use a parametric EQ to cut at 39 Hz and 127 Hz, as these were room modes that I measured with a calibrated microphone and RTA at my listening position. I would have gone the bass trap route, but the room was too small and there would have been no room left for me. I sit 1 meter from the speakers. I moved the speakers around and the sub woofer as well and made all kinds of cross-over adjustments to the speakers and sub woofer to get as flat a response as possible before adding the parametric EQ.

The parametric EQ is built into my player software (HQPlayer) and works at all sample rates up to 2.8 Mhz. The convolution data came from capturing the impulse response of a parametric EQ that was adjusted to flatten the response. In addition to the cuts I also added boost at 29 Hz and was able to get flat response down to about 25 Hz this way. The sub woofer is in a corner on the floor and has no problems with this boost. My only out-of-pocket cost was $200 for the calibrated microphone and RTA software.
