.....I've done it on several occasions. Of course the circumstances were different. The buyer was not setting up the shipping arrangements to avoid damage, they usually do it to lower shipping (and overall) costs. It is rare, but sometimes I sell to someone who is trying to save shipping costs, so they put the shipping, liability and all, on their business shipping account.
Personally, I wouldn't do what your seller wants you to do, but then I've never been that desperate for any piece of audio equipment. I can certainly understand a seller's wish to sell local, as I've done that on many occasions too. I usually don't offer the buyer to set up their own shipping, I just tell them "local pick up only".
You play this game long enough you will see just about everything. Why just today, on Audiogon, I had a new member with no feedback from Russia offer me full price plus shipping and PayPal fees for something that I am selling. LOL!! Like I just fell of the turnip truck!!
