RE: I like to demo gear in my own home.

Thanks for the update, now I don't feel like I am missing out on something major. I think I will let things settle down a little bit before I put my feet in the computer audio pool.

I love VAC sound, Kevin Hayes really knows what he is doing. I've owned a couple of VAC preamps, and I owned the VAC Avatar Super integrated amp.....TWICE!! I still somewhat feel bad about selling that last one, it was a mistake. The Avatar Super is pretty much identical to VAC's current Sigma 160i. Kevin pulled the Super off the market because he told me even at $6500 he was losing money on it. A few years later, here is the Sigma 160i, same tubes, same power, but a facelift for $10K.

I still almost bought one. The only thing that stopped me was I found out that the new Sigma uses the same remote, but the mute button has been disconnected. I use the mute button every time I flip an LP!!! Sorry Kevin, no can do. I put the $6500 up against $20,000 seperates, and it handled itself VERY nicely. In some categories it actually won!!
