RE: I agree, but

Well, there's a lot of things designers do to make up for the fact that we're not in the concert hall, don't have musicians in front of us. I expect they're artifacts, often good ones, sometimes not so much. Alan Shaw has said that he sets the presentation back a bit because that's how he thinks live music (and other sounds) are in reality. Reynaud does something else that seems to bring it forward, without making it assertive, I should add. Audio Note spreads the sound out, paying little attentiion to 'imaging.' The new Reynauds (and my old Meridian M2's) image like bandits. This is the kind of thing I was writing about, I think, that you referred to.

But the original poster here is onto something. Of course what he's onto is that most folks KNOW that their living room ain't a concert hall or jazz club and could care less. They KNOW a totally objective sounding system is CORRECT, but they also know that getting a totally accurate representation of 'live' music into their living rooms is both a nearly impossible challenge and would be a mixed blessing anyway. They want something else, something a little less raw and overwhelming. Something more comfortable: all of the things we attach adjectives to.
