RE: Repair receiver instructions/book

IMHO you really can't just read a book and suddenly gain the knowledge, experience and skills to do a competent repair, particularly on a rare vintage piece. It takes time starting with simple projects, working your way up the ladder to more difficult ones.

Before you go go getting invasive, first try spraying some CAIG DeOxit or Radio Shack Tuner-Control cleaner into the offending balance pot and speaker switch, work them back and forth a few times to loosen and displace any crud that may have built up over the years and see if that solves the problems you've having.
