The first two things I noticed about the album was (1) how good Daltrey still sounds despite the noticeable aging in his voice; and (2) the undiminished quality of Pete's songwriting. Despite some press criticisms, I think the album is exceptionally good, especially in the face of the unrealistically gargantuan expectations. With Pino and Zak aboard, the band truly is world-class. I'm really happy for Roger and Pete. They've faced some serious hurdles over the course of their careers, and it's nice that they followed their muse instead of listening to people who prefer their heroes in cryogenic suspension. And, yes, the sonics are terrific.
