You are so right about any damage likely to occur during the last 100 feet of the journey. I work in New York City and see carriers making deliveries every day. Because parking is tight, drivers often must park some distance away from their destination and walk packages from the truck stacked high on dollies. I often see packages being tossed about in the delivery trucks or falling off a dolly onto the Manhattan sidewalk. I will say to myself I hope that is not some poor person's delicate electronics or other breakable item that is being thrown around or just hit the ground.
