Listing equipment on agon gives exposure for equipment and manufacturers making consumers more aware of their equipment. If one is talking about actual "ads", then I would agree that this is best handled by the manufacturer as part of their business strategy. However, if we are talking about agon ads for used equipment then it doesn't do any harm and can, in fact, help get the word around about a particular product line.

For example, I am much more aware of Tyler Acoustics speakers because I've seen ads on agon ad nauseum for them -- now these folks are direct sales so obviously they are using agon as an advertising vehicle but the point is that exposure for small companies often takes place through the agon type of venue.

The only real damage that I see is when items are very heavily discounted for used sales because it often signals that the company is either: 1) changing product lines substantially; or 2) going out of business.

I think that the real problem for manufacturers is that the used market signals to people how overpriced many of their products appear to be given the discounts. Personally, I think that many of these products ARE overpriced so I'm not unhappy about having this counter-pressure present in the marketplace.
