Listening would be the final test but with older equipment like the c-80, its hard to know if a difference is inherent or due to things such as dirty switches which can be easily fixed.

Before I make up the interconnects, it would be handy to know based on theory and the experience of others whether they are likely to work out or whether for example I should try to find some lower capacitance cable. Also if my values are ccomfortable, I would make the interconnects a bit longer to give me a bit more flexability in equipment placement.

Your experience sounds promising but I note that your power amp has a high input impedance and your pre has a low output impedance. Both of these things are no doubt helping it work well despite the long run. Do you happen to know just how low the capaciance of your cable is? The lowest I have seen is 14 pF / ft but I would imagine that even lower values exist.
