Re: McIntosh 501 Monobloc question

Ron from McIntosh here. We do believe this was a very good review of the MC501 amp. As far as the thermal shutdown when the amps were running a continuous sine wave this is normal. Manufactures are limited on heat-sink temperature by the certification agencies and the 501 will shut down if hot and then turn back on as the amp cools. When playing music at full power the amp will not overheat or shutdown. The speakers might though! For continuous sine wave use one could fan cool the heat sink area but fan noise is always intrusive.
Concerning power, the 501 did deliver 1000 watts with a two ohm load on the 4 ohm tap in the review.
