Given your comments, you must have spent time at the Bienecke Library - and perhaps also with the denizens of Radcliffe? To me, the Bienecke is a strangely frigid place in itself- a goofy cube made of stacked alabaster TV screen shaped panels around a glass core, and much of it is underground. More of a mausoleum atmosphere, but of course an amazing collection and brilliant, lazy staff.
As for the cryogenic effect of Radcliffians, that is why many Yalies gravitate to Smithites.
