Hello, SID works on digital players of all prices

Having used it for the last 4 months, I found the SID to be effective on a wide range of digital players, ranging from the Musical Fidelity and Accuphase SACD players, whole range of Sony SACD players, Naim and Marantz CD players, Sony and Pioneer DVD players and including my 7 year old Sony portable CD Walkman.

I was browsing at a local vinyl dealer when someone came in and wanted to try this little green disc. I wasn't actively listening, but I couldn't help noticing how it improved the sound of the Sony SACD player SCD-XE670, even with my back turned against the audio system. I took the model 14 disc home and try it on my Sony top-loading SCD-1. It fits the SCD-1 spindle hole perfectly, leaving no gap for offending light to stray through. It helped tremendously. For Singapore Dollars $51.00, this is one tweak that is value for money, and most importantly it works.

I also paint my discs with CD stoplight green pen, which I find really cleans up the "greyish haze" and "grunch" between the notes, leading to a much more natural presentation. The SID is said to work on the printed label at the top side of the disc, which unfortunately reflects the light of the laser with varied intensity. The SID removes reflections caused by the label.

But I find that it works on opaque labeled discs as well. Good examples are the Dire Straits Brothers In Arms and Eagles Hell Freezes Over XRCDs. But I have also found that it is least effective on Rebecca Pidgeon 's Raven SACD. Does the fact that this disc is painted green has anything to do with the degree of sonic improvement?

The SID works extremely well on Jerry Goldsmith Film Music SACD from Telarc. The disc is painted black on one half. I am beginning to think that perhaps the design & patterns on the disc label side is a factor to the disc's sound quality

It helps make digital in whatever form (SACD & CD) more acceptable, closer to the sense of involvement that I get with my analog set-up. Although I have been using the CD Stoplight (Green Pen) already, this green disc has taken digital playback to another new higher level of enjoyment. Without it, my players suddenly seems "sour". I can't think of any other way to describe it.

For my component players, SCD-1, DVP-NS905, DVP-S7000, I use the number 14 disc. I also bought the number 15 disc (with a slightly bigger spindle hole) for my CD walkman. And lo and behold, would you believe it, it works! Even on a portable. Don't feel the fatigue or pain in my ears any more. For years I thought it was the bass being too much from my Grado headphones, or the SPL is too high or something. Now I know. It was jitter fatigue all along. The SID got rid of that

So for me, the SID is indispensable and not at all subtle. I would gladly downgrade from a DVP-S9000ES to the cheaper DVP-NS905 in order to use the SID, so significant is its contribution to sound quality(DVP-S9000ES' thin CD tray prevents use of SID). Even Krell and Wadia seem to have acknowledged this stray laser problem, having treated the internal spaces around their transport section green.

Oh, BTW, you are right, the cryogenic treatment works!
