soundproofing for router noise

anyone point me to what kind of soundproofing material i might be able to find for minimizing the fan noise from the data line controller that sits near my left speaker? it is located there because that's where it comes in the house, so i don't have much option of moving it, certainly not to another room w/o rewiring my phone, tv and internet which come in the house bundled in that location. it happens to be in the room where my music system is. really gets in the way of music. i'm thinking maybe i can construct a box (about 12" x 12" x 3") around it where it mounts on the wall, with ventilation as needed, lined with some acoustic treatment (like auto sound proofing?) to knock down the buzz.. i assume there are some materials better than others for specific noises. any tips on this kind of fan noise? thx! and for all you who outbid me on the tyler acoustics linbrook monitors tonite on audiogon, bleeeeppphhhhh!
