I believe manufactures use a dB volts scale to indicate the fraction of full power.Amplitude_in_dB = 20*log(Output_Power / Total_Amp_Power)
For example, if you have an 80 Watt reciever:
-30 dB = 20*log(Output_Power / 80W)
so, Output_Power = 2.5 Watts
Likewise, -25 dB = 4.5 Watts on a 80W amp
