Re: Krell vs. Musical Fidelity vs. Mark Levinson vs. McIntosh

The MC6900 McIntosh is the same seperate amp as the MC202, $3200, 200 W per channel, and the C41 pre amp, $2500, less the C41's tape monitor loop. The 6900 does have a defeatable 5 band tone control which is popular when playing less than perfect recordings. The 6900 uses an autoformer coupled amp with 2,4,and 8 ohm outputs which will allow full power into a variety of speaker loads. The other advantage of the autoformer is it allows the design of the output stage to be linear without impedance matching to a specific load as the autoformer will match the load. This will result in cool operation and very long life for the power amp section. These amps are popular with the N series of B&W speakers and should be used on the 4 ohm tap to match the bass impedance of the N series. If you would want to add more power at a later date you can connect a second amp to the switched pre amp outs of the 6900 and passivly bi amp your B&Ws.
