I generally don't rip a company or a component, but the Audiolab 8000T tuner was the biggest lemon I've ever had for an audio component. The backlit display kept burning out lamps (they're tiny peanut lamps behind the LCD display- only available from Artech), and when the tuner itself went South after about six months, I sent it to Artech for warranty repair, and the technicians accused me of tampering with the tuner circuitry, and declared the warranty void. (I purchased the unit new in a sealed box from an authorized dealer. I did open the unit several times to replace the lamps, but never thought about messing around with anything else.) The unit had to be sent to England, where the repair had about a three-month turnaround time. Needless to say, when I got the unit back, I just made sure the unit was functional before shipping the unit to someone I sold it to during the repair period. (When functioning properly, I basically agree with this review. It is one of the best-sounding digitally-synthesized tuners out there. Very pleasant to listen to. Although I do prefer the Kenwood L-01T and the H/K 930 receiver tuner section.)In contrast, every other tuner that I've had, while I was using them, was maintenance-free. Once in a blue moon a burned-out lamp, but that was it. (The 8000T was burning out lamps every 2 to 3 months.)
