There is no scientific "debate": proper cryogenic treatment improves the performance of critical metals.

The two gotchas are proper and critical. Dunking does more harm than good. You have to have a computer-controlled chamber to get results that are within acceptable process tolerances.

And, re: critical: one could argue in good faith that a tool-steel tabletting punch and a meter of audio wire are different animals. However, I have seen electron microscope evidence that convinces me that proper cryo processing regularizes the crystalline structure of solder junctions.
