Can you post a picture of the National GZ34?My experience has been that they are either a Russian indirectly heated triode similar to a 5Z4 or a rebranded Bendix 6106. Neither will survive the current drain in a ST70, but both are in fact rather nice tubes when used within their "real" ratings.
I hate to jinx myself, but I've never blown a vintage GZ34 in any equipment - and I run them daily. I use either old stock mullard types or the later Japanese "x seam" copies.
At one point I tried chinese GZ34's from two different sources. All would test fine, but arc over in a Mark III. No thanks!
