Re: Repair Referee Needed

As far as I know no CD player has a switch to tell it that a CD is actually on the tray.
When one closes or rotates the tray, the tray closed switch is activated. The laser unit moves up and down twice to "recognize" a CD. If it picks up reflection from the CD's surface, then the motor spins the CD and the laser unit reads the table of contents (TOC).

NO DISC displays if the up-down movement brings no reflection.
ERROR displays if there is a disc and the TOC is unreadable.
The TOC (number of tracks + total time) displays when the CD is fully recognized.

My opinion: the new laser unit partially fixed the problem, but it needs to be fine-tuned, ask the shop to verify the laser focus/tracking adjustments with a test disc.
If they do not have a test disc with the fish-eye pattern, take your business to an authorized Service Center.
Good luck
Carlos
