Re: Emm labs transport, DCC2 vs. Audio Aero Capitale MK II vs. Wadia 861 vs. Simaudio Eclipse

Greetings
From your post:
"I know the Simaudio Eclipse doesn't have a built-in "preamp" or volume control but I would perhaps use the Placette RVC with it. I want a fairly natural, musical sounding player, but still dynamic enough to handle this kind of music with sufficient bass (but not exaggerated)"
IME resistive passive preamps will not give you the dynamics you are looking for. You need a transformer preamp (TVC) or an active preamp to preserve the subjective dynamic range.
I have not heard the EMM labs combo.
The Audio Aero built-in tube preamp has plenty of dynamics connected to my GamuT amp (the GamuT has adjustable input sensitivity /gain). The Capitole MKII CDP has no volume control issues with the latest chip (free of charge from the AA distributor).
Wadia 861 or ML are good choices if you are a bass fan, however IMHO the Capitole beats both in natural tone, believability, total absence of "digititis" and oustanding soundstage. I find its bass delivery very natural and not overblown.
I listen mostly to jazz. Last week a friend visited and brought some Massive Atack and Radiohead CDs. It is pretty impressive music...well recorded and highly dynamic.
I think you need to spend some time shopping for speakers that are capable of delivering lots of power on top of the the finer details and inner dynamics of those records. Not an easy task IMO.
Maybe high-efficiency hi-end speakers with a studio background will do the trick: Tannoy, PMC, Revel or ATC. Of course I do NOT mean the bookshelf models :^)
Good luck
