Well, you could ask a fellow 'mate to put one together for you, but it would be around $300 including a box, and connectors and such. Still have to add a power supply after that. You could also snag a used one on audiogon for $350 (eg: right now! saves you the order time!)

Yes: it DOES invert phase, UNCORRECTED, it sounds like, well, the phase is inverted (attack doesn't sound right, bass sounds muffled / wrong). I use an Audio Alchemy DTI jitter corrector, it has a digital phase-invert switch, and things are back to normal when you invert back.

Also in your budget, a used Muse 2 may fit the bill.
