Re: Adenda to Rega Planet Mods

Thanks, Laddavid
There is soldering tutorial on the Asylum FAQ question, but I do not recommend a CD player as your first project. CDPs are very crowded and circuit traces are easily damaged.
After you acquire soldering experience, if you want to do it, I am sure you can do it.
There are lots of modifiers in the US (Dan wright comes to mind)and Audiocom in the UK, but their cost would be a little heavy for a Rega.
they usually mod Shanling, Arcam or SACD players.
I took this mod as an intellectual challlenge. I knew nothing about CDPs, had lots of practice on tube circuits.
I bought an introductory book on digital technology, read it cover to cover, identified the major parts within the Rega and decided no to change any digital circuits, just improve parts quality, power supply regulation and change the output wiring and connectors.
I also improved grounding and shielding of the digital cables.
The Rega still sounds fine.
I am currently listening to music via an Audio Aero Prima 24/192 tubed CD player. By God, it plays MUSIC! I would not dare to modify it, so perfect are its TONE, vocals, rhythm and high-frequencies.
At 2K and change, I find it a no-brainer for those who want a non-digital sound from regular CDs, it sounds close to SACD on well-recorded redbook CDs.
enjoy the music!
Carlos
