Re: how can you tell when the Laser about to go ?

The laser unit (including laser tracking mechanism)is about to go when (after proper lens cleaning), the CDP refuses to play some records (NO DISC) or skips/mistracks on very small scratches.
A worn laser will make lots of swishing noises attempting to read the table of contents of a CD (TOC) and will take longer than normal to display the TOC.
Another telltale sign is when the CDP fails to skip several tracks forward or back.
