I bet it fails when you power on the CDP.
Have them replace the capacitor that is connected to the diodes. It's probably shorting internally.
AFAIK, no other parts in a CD player are capable of drawing enough current to burn a 1 A diode. The chips draw few milliamperes.
To avoid further problems, leave the CDP on 24/7, the cap's dielectric may reform and never fail again.
