The Power Boss MKII HDCD player can be identified by a daughter board installed with 1 inch stand-offs and jumper wires on top of the main board.
The small board (4" by 6" ?) has a Pacific Microsonics HDCD100 filter IC and four 1 Farad Elna caps close to the PCM 1702 DAC chips.
The Power Boss tweak added some small 78L05 5 V voltage regulators and four 1,000,000 uF capacitors to the digital supply.
The ICOn MK II without power boss has the HDCD led and the Pacific chip, but not the 1 Farad caps.
By the way those 1 Farad caps suck, as do most large electrolytics. Replace them with small, very low ESR and ESL caps (100 uF Elna or BG N are fine) and listen to the music.
You will miss the heavy punding bass but the overall naturalness of the sound improves a lot.
I hope this helps
Carlos
