Re: The best between XRCD and HDCD ? and SACD ?

XRCD is not necessarily a separate format, because it's regular Redbook (16Bit 44.1 KHz) audio. What makes it special is the proprietary low-jitter 20Bit remastering technique that JVC use to make them - they have a noticably warmer, smoother sound as a result (but remastered CDs from other labels can sound good too, it's just XRCDs are often 'strikingly' good). This format will not fade as long as people are buying standard CDs (which will be quite a while).

HDCD is a format which uses 20Bit playback by throwing in some extra bits onto a Redbook 16bit CD. The HDCD decoder picks these up, and decodes them for extra detail. Many believe it to be a 'still-born' or fading format, because SACD is noticably superior (24bit/96KHz).
