Keep those CD-R's cool. The bits are stored on thermal sensitive ink. If you leave them in a hot car for an afternoon they can start going bad.

If the computer drive is in good condition, the computer (apart from the power supply) should not have a big effect on the lifetime of the burn, but the software will, speed will, etc... More important is the CD-R media, which determines the ink formulation and hence lifetime. There are premium "100 year" CD-R brands, but I wouldn't bank on them.
