RE: Bryston BDP-1 vs. computer

I have not read the review you are talking about, so I will not comment on it.

A Bryston BDP-1 uses this motherboard - http://www.pcengines.ch/alix1d.htm - with a Geode 500 MHz CPU and an ESI Juli@ sound card.

I am not sure they are premium quality parts.

Until a possible firmware upgrade, a Bryston BDP-1 takes a full 10 minutes to load a 1TB hard disk from its USB2 port. Unfortunately, it does index every time.

Sound quality is good. There are reports saying that AES/EBU is preferable to BNC with Bryston DAC.
