Re: Eastsound E5 vs. TubeDac

Well, the TubeDAC was for sale the next day. That was comparing it running a Amperex 7308 tube as well, with the stock power supply.

The Eastsound walked all over the TubeDAC. The music was more solid, better imaging, and much tighter (and particularly deeper) bass. The soundstage was slightly wider, but the separation of instruments was better, it became much more easy to track individual sounds when there are many things going on at the same time.

BTW, other comments, to quote another fellow group buyer were:

"... Meanwhile, first impressions are of a laid back sound (not too forward) and a well defined stage with instruments nicely located. Bass is different. Not sure if it is bigger but seems more defined and less muddy. Not by a whole lot but I sense it nonetheless. I "think" I am noticing a reduction in spatial dimensionality which comes across as a slightly less achieved depth of field. But then again I may just be hearing what is on (or should I say not on) the CD's I've tried so far. It's as though someone removed the tiniest amount of reverb."
