This technique is used by Accuphase, Bow (of ZZ-Eight fame) and other manufacturers to increase the signal-to-noise ratio.
Every additional DAC improves the S/N by 2-3db, because the random noise is cancelled when summing the current outputs.
It works very similarly to paralelling two triodes on a double triode (12ax7, 6dj8).
BTW I have done this tweak with BB PCM 1702s, it does wonders.
