I happen to know the guy who runs the business. Unlike some people on forums, he's a nice guy. He recently told me in a private email that the "Unsubscribe" button works. This is hardly surprising, as he would be violating a U.S. law if he didn't provide an unsubscribe capability.

I also happen to use Thunderbird. I have a number of sources of email that I've set up to go directly to the SPAM folder. The filtering system in Thunderbird is easy to set up and use by anyone of normal intelligence and patience.
