RE: Bob Neill ...

Whole thread very flattering. Note: It's not a journey that leaves stuff behind (or not much) but that just moves around in a privileged (because as a reviewer I could and as a dealer I can) circle, sampling Simple Simon's wares. I still take pleasure from Audio Note, Blue Circle, JM Reynaud as well as the latest discoveries, Crimson, Tocaro, and Resolution Audio. Just different kinds of pleasure. The lines I've dropped left because they didn't do that, whatever else they did. Where on the circle I'll end up I won't know 'til Amherst Audio goes away. Not at least until my 18 year old son gets through and out of Beloit College! And even the stuff I like keeps changing. Gilbert Yeung is developing a whole new series of all solid state amps that take him closer to the sound of Crimson. BC gear will always be a tad sexier, Crimson a bit more objective. But that they're more alike than in the past muddies the audio waters around here wonderfully.

One of the most interesting experiences I have is when people visit (guy came up from Philly Tuesday...round trip in one day -- 11 hours) and I get to listen to what they want to hear and, as least imaginatively, through their ears. The guy from Philly had bought a pair of JMR Offrande Supreme, V2's from me, had me break them in for him (no, I don't do that for everybody), and came up to listen to them on a handful of different amps. Fascinating experience that taught us both a lot. Another came a year or so ago to buy a pair of Bliss Silvers and wanted to hear them on both the Blue Circle FtTH2 (the usual match) and an Audio Note OTO Signature (not at all the usual match). We were both knocked out at how well they both worked in their different ways, so now I recommend both.

If I did a narrative tale of the journey, I'd end up criticizing those I've left behind and that would sort of a no-no for a dealer. Some I left behind even before they got here.
