Stress relief. Processed metals show very random grain structure that is much more aligned after cryogenic treatment. I have seen before and after photos of the grain of cast parts not related to audio, and the change in alignment was dramatic. I would guess a piece of wire goes from a pothole filled back road to a freeway as far as the signal transfer. Just a side note. A engine block shrinks over 1/4 inch in demention when at -300F.
