Never tried submersion in liquid nitrogen. I think they would be equivalent since the last few degrees shouldn't matter; in fact, I don't think it's a temperature issue, per se, to begin with - after all, there are liquid gases with much lower temperatures than nitrogen. If it were strictly a temperature issue then wouldn't another (even colder) liquid gas be preferred to obtain the maximum benfit?. I think US and Euro space programs obtain temp down very close to absolute zero with their cryocoolers. Maybe we should send cables and CD players up on the space shuttle haha. My exper. is sonic results comparable to cryogenic tempering - and as permanent - can be obtained with simple freezing; some attention must be payed to how it is done, same as with liquid nitrogen.
