I am no expert in metallurgy, but I do remember enough of my undergraduate lab days to recall what happens if something is immersed in liquid nitrogen. In my posting I merely sought to tell others what I had experienced. I have heard various theories about the benefits of cryogenic treatments including that from Jena Labs, http://www.jenalabs.com/pages/cryo1.htm, but none of this matters to me. I do not believe I am deluding myself and the cost is not substantial. For those of you willing to try things, I urge you to give it a try.
