I found this short but very interesting article on cryogenic science in this months issue of HiFi News describing various applications including some in world of audio. I am a bit perplexed however that this process has not been exploited by the audio industry. It is interesting to read Ray Kimbers comments here when he says that the whole freezing process appears to be very complex and yet Ed Meitner who used the process on interconnect cable over a decade ago and more recently on 20 bit DAC chips ,seems to describes the whole process as being quite straight forward ."If we take it down to liquid nitrogen temperatures then it [ the releiving of residual stress ] happens much faster....treatment time for copper was 12 hours on the way down, 12 hours soak, and 12 hours back. You don't want to go too fast: then you put thermal stresses into the material and break it." Perhaps these complexities involved in the process that Ray Kimber mentioned are not spelled out in this article.Hummm.If one wanted to try out this process on say ones CD's, which seems to have had unequivocal success so far, where would the average person be able to have this process done and at what sort of cost?

Kevin
