RE: Cardas GRS spades crimp

I second what Duster says below. The GRS is made to be soldered and crimping would result in an unreliable connection. When soldered, IMO, they are a pretty good, but not great, spade and, in addition to Cardas cables, they are used on some other higher end cables such as Audience.
I prefer crimping and, in addition to Duster's recommendation for the Xhadow spades - a very nice silver over copper spade, I would recommend Furutech spades available at Partsconnexion (CAN), VH Audio (WI), and Sonic Craft (AR) as well as other places. I like the true crimp spades and only use the set screw type for temporary applications when trying out different DIY wire configurations. Their FP201 and FP203 series spades use "pure copper" plated in either gold or rhodium and treated with their Alpha process (demagnetization and cryogenic treatment).

You could also look at Oyaide and Eichmann who both offer high quality crimp spade connectors.
Finally, consider using at a minimum a ratcheting type crimp tool or a hydraulic tool like the one pictured.
