Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Ideal? No idea. Optimal? 1.5 meters

I have been beating around this bush for years, and my conclusions (always open to review and revision) as of today are:

1. Have Markertek's custom department fabricate for you a 1.5 meter SPDIF cable using their best cable stock and connectors. Mine is Canare L-4CFB, if I am reading that right, and Canare RCA connectors. It cost less than $30, IIRC.

2. If you want to go to the trouble, send it out for cryogenic processing, which should cost $50 or less. Applied Cryogenics of Newton, Massachusetts has lots of experience cryo'ing electronics and cables.

3. Here's the most important part--buy an Ayre Acoustics Irrational But Efficacious System Enhancement (burn-in) CD, and run the 5-minute sweep through the digital cable--but don't over-do it. Not more than one sweep a day. The CD is $20, and Music Direct sells it with a money-back guarantee. They will accept it for return even if you have used it and don't like it, so says Josh Bizar.

Everyone I have done an Ayre "IBE" demo for has clearly heard improvements.

Is 16 feet of digital cable possible better? Sure. Do some wildly expensive digital cables sound better? Yes, to me. I had the loan of a $500 Siltech cable that I thought was the bees' knees. But I did not buy it.

Hope this helps.

JM
