Cloth and rubber insulation is no longer being used on wire for household use. These materials do not hold up well over time; they become dry and brittle, and fall off, posing a danger of short circuits -- not something you want in your walls. Modern insulation is thermoplastic. At Lowes/Home Depot you're stuck with standard Romex or individual type THHN/THWN wire in conduit. The alternative is something like JPS Labs or Cardas in-wall cable.
