From what you say, the soldering must have upset the cryogenic treatment. The termination wire looks exactly the same - I assume it has not been DCTd (perhaps the stiffness lies in the insulation after cryoing).I think it's time to admit defeat and return the cable to Townshend for repairs. Lesson learned!!!
