Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

I would like to add...

that a thin power cord will actually limit the amount of current available to a power amp.
Just try a regular, thin computer power cord on your big power amp and listen to the wimpy bass.

I am a firm believer that if you can prove a point logically by making a change an listening to the results, then it follows that the reverse is also true.
Translating: if a thin cord demonstrably chokes a power amp's bass delivery, a thicker cord (than the 18AWG cord provided by the factory) will improve the bass (keep in mind the usual inductance/capacitance/shielding caveats).
Of course there is no point in going past a 20A rating (AWG12), because the 15A IEC connector will then be the weak link.
