Belden 8412 is a tinned copper twisted pair, insulated with EPDM plastic (a slight cut above PVC, but not that great, mainly used due to its flexibility), shielded with a tinned copper braid. Th capacitance when connected as an interconnect would be apprx. 55 pF per foot. This is a very high level of capacitance, probably due to the EPDM insulation's dielectric constant being quite high. This could result in a filtering action for the cable, that would make things sound cleaner than they were.Or you might not have been listening with proper attention to detail.
You do not mention how many musical cuts you listened to, how they were presented, what was done to swap the cables, etc.For more info on how to conduct a more controlled cable audition, see:
http://www.AudioAsylum.com/audio/cables/messages/4321.htmlMany people do not realize just how difficult it can be to listen and compare components, espcially cables. Long term listening tends to show up things that even professionals can not pick up on in a short listening session.
